Our experienced team ensure that our young people leave with confidence to progress with transferable skills ready for their next steps.
Our Vision
By recognising and cultivating the potential of the young people, we strive to ensure everyone, uses their strengths and is supported to succeed. Our ethos is underpinned by our commitment to a nurturing, inclusive, and individualised service, while striving for excellence and adventure.
We are dedicated to providing a safe space for young people to craft the life skills they need to successfully engage in education, training, and employment.
Working closely with schools, education providers and local authorities we aim to offer learner led education through our programmes. Our provision can be delivered at our centre, at Trojans Sports Club, Eastleigh. Each provision is tailored to the individual needs and context of the young people.
The provision is based around sports training and healthy living and run by qualified coaches to engage with young people who are struggling in their current academic climate. We offer engagement, education, mentorship and health & fitness and emphasising the Core Values of Life (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship) to support a variety of learning pathways.
Improving personal health and fitness – (barriers, fitness, building confidence, nutrition, exercise methods, goal setting)
Coaching and Player development – (understanding a player, building an environment to learn, goal setting, improving self, analysing)
The aim is to improve the skills of young people who are working below their age-related expectations to both develop practical skills and help with young peoples to engage and re-engage with learning and transition back into education.
Outcomes
Attending this placement should result in the young people having a new-found enthusiasm for learning, and therefore a more successful educational life with increased possibilities moving forward.
Mental health wellbeing
Sport 2 Aspire is designed to support young people who may face challenges in traditional settings. These challenges can include behavioural issues, mental health concerns, or difficulties with academic progress.
One crucial aspect to consider is how mental health affects learning outcomes. When young people are dealing with mental health issues, it can impact their ability to focus, concentrate, and retain information. It can also lead to decreased motivation and engagement in the learning process.
At Sport 2 Aspire, we strongly believe that mental health plays a pivotal role in an individual’s success. That’s why our approach is to create a safe and comfortable environment through personalised learning. Our staff prioritise building trusted relationships through tutoring/mentoring, so the young people know they have someone in their corner. Additionally, we focus on social-emotional skill building, equipping students with tools to express their feelings, manage anxiety, and build self-esteem.
Our provision can provide a lifeline for young people who may have struggled in mainstream education. It offers a supportive and nurturing environment where young people can thrive whilst building resilience academically, emotionally, and socially.
Mentoring
Our mentoring system is innovative and has a creative approach to the informal education of young people. Our highly trained and skilled staff provide a safe and caring environment for young people to increase their confidence, build their self-esteem, and improve their social and life skills. Mentoring tackles the underlying reasons why a young person may not engage in mainstream education, training or employment, and seeks to provide a positive role model in their time with us as an interim service. With each young person’s targeted outcomes in mind, mentoring focuses on mutual respect, personal growth, improvements in behaviour, and the space to learn from mistakes. We recognise that education is essential, and our bespoke mentoring underpins our holistic approach to alternative education.
Mentors empower young people to:
Increase their confidence
Build their self esteem
Develop life skills
Improve their social skills
Have future goals
Re-engage with education, training, or employment
